Morgan Moe has always had an eye for a good idea, and an entrepreneurial spirit - but even she was surprised when she got the news that she was one of The Next 36. “I was actually so surprised to make the cut,” says Moe, “I’m still a little shocked to tell you the truth.”

The fourth year Kinesiology student has been selected, from over a thousand applicants, to be a part of The Next 36, an ambitious entrepreneurship program that provides 36 of Canada’s most entrepreneurial students with an intense business boot camp experience that includes $75,000 in funding and guidance from some of Canada’s top entrepreneurs and business leaders, including Galen Weston, Paul Desmarais Sr., Jimmy Pattison and a long list of prominent Canadian business leaders.

“They’re expecting us to come up with a $10 million business plan by January…” explains Moe, “They want us to think big – find a big problem with huge importance and tackle it … “ No pressure, as they say, but then again, Morgan is used to pressure. Moe works as a Emergency Medical Technician a degree that she finished at SAIT while simultaneously completing her third year of Kinesiology and volunteering as a therapy aid for the Association for the Rehabilitation of the Brain Injured.

Her experience in a number of health-care settings, as an EMT, volunteer and Kinesiology practicum student, is one of the reasons that Morgan believes she will be of particular value to her team. Moe says she has a number of ideas for her team including an “app” that would help coaches and players evaluate their progress on a concussion return to play protocol. “Within my community I feel like I’ve made an impact to the scale of what I can do now,”says Moe. “Through The Next 36 I’m going to develop skills to affect that many more people inside and maybe even outside of my community and Canada as a whole.”

Each one of The Next 36 is given a $25,000 value scholarship, and put into a team of four. For eight months they are provided mentorship from some of Canada's top business leaders, up to $50,000 cash, and academic instruction from some of the world's top faculty.

The program is spearheaded by a founding group of 50 high-profile business leaders, entrepreneurs, and academics. Morgan’s group has named their company Citizen Impulse, you can follow them on Facebook , or you can follow their tweets @CitizenImpulse .

In May she returns to Toronto to tackle her business in earnest and, predictably, she’s looking forward to the challenge. “I think my major goal for the team is to really expand what’s possible. We’re given unbelievable resources … and in turn we have huge expectations placed on us. I think it’s really going to produce something big.”
