May 2012 - Congratulations to Raylene Reimer, PhD, who was awarded The Centrum Foundation New Scientist Award. This award is granted to a member of the Canadian Nutrition Society, who has made an outstanding contribution to research in nutrition within the preceding five years and who received their last academic degree within the last 15 years.   MYTHOLOGIES: DIALOGUE AND MUSINGS ON THE CULTURE OF SPORT. Screening of "What Is Sport?" and a panel discussion on nationalism and other mythologies of sport featuring Angie Abdou, PhD, College of the Rockies, Richard Crepeau, PhD, University of Central Florida, Russell Field, PhD, University of Manitoba.  March 2012 - Hockey Calgary delays introduction of body checking until Bantam. Hockey Calgary cited the research of Dr Carolyn Emery as a critical part of their decision making process. June 28, 2011 - AIMM-Young research project hopes to "cure" type 2 diabetes, obesity: Kinesiology researcher Dr. Dustin Hittel and his team officially opened their AIMMY lab, thanks to the generous support of The Eresman Family Foundation, The BURNCO Foundation and Jay and Karen Westman. April 18, 2011 -  Study Sheds Light On NHL Concussions: A University of Calgary study, done in cooperation with the National Hockey League, shows that concussions are keeping players out longer. The study conducted over seven NHL seasons, and led by sports medicine researchers within the Faculty of Kinesiology, showed that while the rate of injuries leveled out over the course of the study, the number of days lost from concussions increased.    
March 30, 2011 -Getting Hands-On With Knee Pain: Pain and injuries often lead to muscles that shut down and become dormant. New manual therapy techniques have become the cutting-edge way to “wake up” these muscles or improve performance.

New study on bodychecking in Pee Wee hockey: new study that looks at the effects of bodychecking in Pee Wee hockey (with players aged 11-12) by researchers at the University of Calgary will be released Tuesday, June 8th. The study, to be published this week in the prestigious Journal of the American Medical Association, compares rates of injury between leagues in Alberta, where bodychecking is allowed, and in Quebec where it isn’t permitted

"Susie" Welcomed To New Home: Her official name is L-Straddle, but around Kinesiology she has been given the friendlier name, "Susie." Susie is the bronze sculpture of a female gymnast who has been performing a routine outside the Kinesiology link since last Fall. Last Friday, Susie was officially unveiled at a brief ceremony that included donors Dan and Carolynne Boivin, and the Dean of Kinesiology Dr. Wayne Giles.
