Master of Kinesiology (MKin) - Specialization in Applied Exercise Physiology

The MKin program is a course-based degree program designed to prepare students to be professional kinesiologists with advanced understanding of applied exercise physiology appropriate for  work in chronic disease management, health and wellness and high performance sport.

Why choose the MKin - Specialization in Applied Exercise Physiology?

The University of Calgary, Masters of Kinesiology is an innovative, course-based, graduate program that prepares students for careers as professional kinesiologists with advanced understanding of applied exercise physiology.

MKin program accepts ten highly qualified candidates annually through a competitive admission process. Staff associated with the program are involved in research related to health and disease prevention or high performance sport.

Program focuses on translating advanced knowledge of exercise physiology to real world applications. Students are trained to be critical thinkers examining exercise physiology research in fields related to health and fitness

Unique experiential learning opportunities include extensive ‘hands-on’ laboratory experiences conducting fitness tests, clinical evaluations, tests of athletic capacities and body composition while receiving critical feedback from expert teaching staff.

Students work directly with unique populations including athletes at various levels (professional, national, varsity) and chronic disease patients.

MKin practicum opportunities integrate Kinesiology with the community through clinical and sport partners including Alberta Health Services, Calgary Fire Department, Canadian Sport Centre-Calgary, Cardiac Wellness Institute of Calgary, Peak Power, Running Injury Clinic, TCR Sport Labs, Thrive Centre and WinSport. Networking with prominent academic, clinical and elite sport professionals through the MKin program creates post-degree employment opportunities for students.

Graduates are in high demand and go onto successful careers in chronic disease management, health and wellness and high performance sport.
