This scholarship is awarded to doctoral students of outstanding caliber. They are highly ranked in the University of Calgary Faculty of Graduate Studies Killam Competition by the Killam Memorial Scholarship Committee. The field of study is unrestricted except for the Arts as defined in the Canada Council Act. There is no citizenship restriction. The applicant must have completed at least one year of graduate work before start of tenure and must be registered full-time in, or have applied for admission to, a doctoral program. The scholarship is granted for two years. The fellowship is $33,000 for twelve months, plus a research allowance of $3,000.
Candidates submit an application to the University of Calgary Graduate Award Competition.
In the case of candidates for Killam Pre-Doctoral Scholarships who hold other funding, it is the practice of the Graduate Scholarship Committee to recognize the individual's scholarship achievements through a supplement of the full value in addition to the Killam Pre-Doctoral Research Scholarship.
