Information Technologies Account Registration
This webpage allows you to activate your Information Technologies computing account.
If you have successfully registered for an account in the past, you do not need to register again.
If you have forgotten your password, please see the instructions on the Account & Password Recovery page.
If you are a student, you will be eligible to register for an IT account the day after you have registered in your first course.
Step 1: Read and agree to the Computing Services Agreement
Computing Services Agreement
Services
Information Technologies (IT) will supply a computing services account to you for your academic or university business use. The services provided by IT include such things as access to labs, e-mail, general purpose Unix computing, disk storage, communications, and printing.
Conditions
You must be an eligible member of The University of Calgary community, and possess a valid UofC ID number (UCID). For more information about eligibility rules see here.
You must not share your account with any other individual or group.
IT will make best efforts to provide a secure computing environment.
You are responsible for maintaining the security of your data and passwords.
The UofC and IT shall not be liable for any damages caused by delays in furnishing services under this agreement. You agree to indemnify and hold the UofC and IT harmless for any loss, expense or damage incurred by you as a result of the use of services provided under this agreement.
This agreement becomes effective when you click the "I Agree" button below and remains in effect until terminated by either you or the University.
Use Restrictions
You may use the account for academic or University business purposes. You may not use the account for any commercial activities, including consulting and computing for commercial organizations. Your account may not be used for any activity that:
- violates the laws of Canada or Alberta
- violates any UofC policies
- violates the acceptable use policies of any networks utilized by your communication traffic
- interferes with the computing activities of other users
- subverts system security
- wastes computing resources.
In order to investigate system malfunctions or possible misuse of your account, IT reserves the right to examine (in confidence) any of your files stored on IT machines with prior authorization of a Vice President of the UofC.
IT reserves the right to restrict your use of computing resources.
Account Fee
There is no charge for this account or for services such as e-mail, basic internet connections, etc.
IT does offer some chargeable services such as enhanced internet connections and laser printing. In order to benefit from these services, you need to maintain a financial account with IT that contains a positive balance to pay any applicable fees.
Account Termination
Your account may be terminated at any time by IT if you fail to abide by the conditions and use restrictions specified above. If you cease to be a member of the UofC community, your account will be closed.
