A variety of software is available to members of the university community. The software license agreement between the vendor and the University of Calgary will determine whether the software can be installed on university-owned computers (managed or unmanaged) or a person’s personally-owned computer. See the specific software User Guides below for details on a specific software license.

Managed Computer

If you have a managed Windows-based computer, open Software Center on your computer to find a variety of site-licensed research, statistical and productivity software available to all managed staff computers. Software with limited licenses must be requested through the university’s Software Distribution website.

Unmanaged Computer

If you have an unmanaged Windows-based computer or a Mac, which is a university-owned computer, you can request university site-licensed and limited licenses software through the University's Software Distribution website.

A variety of site-licensed and volume-discounted research, statistical and productivity software is available to members of the university community with a valid IT Account. Visit the university's Software Distribution website for a list of software you can select.

Academic Software Center

Students, faculty, and staff are eligible to purchase a variety of software at significant discounts off standard retail prices for home use. This includes software from Microsoft, Adobe, and more. Access to Licenses expire upon an individual's termination of employment or student status with the University of Calgary. Can anyone request software from the Software Distribution website?

Software request access is restricted by user classification. If you do not have the correct user classification to request a specific software, an email window will open addressed to so that you can send a message to query your eligibility (include your UCID number if you are not sending your message using your email address).

Tell me more about the Academic Software Center.

This site is made available exclusively through an agreement between an academic institution and select software publishers. It allows students, faculty, and staff to purchase software at significant discounts off standard retail prices. Kivuto Solutions Inc. is a distributor for some or all products offered on this site. Details on using the Academic Software Center can be found under the site’s Help menu.

Are Faculty & Staff eligible for Microsoft Office 2016?

Faculty and staff who use a managed university computer are eligible to upgrade to the latest version of Microsoft Office. For information about the upgrade and how to obtain it, visit Office 2016 for Faculty and Staff.

What is Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus?

Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus is similar to other versions of Microsoft Office and includes full versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. ProPlus is available to all university students, faculty, and staff who have a university-licensed Office 365 account and can be installed on unmanaged and personal computers. Additionally, Office 365 ProPlus can be installed on up to five personal devices (including computers, smartphones, and tablets). Software licenses expire when licensed users leave the university.
