Playing the Game of Security
One of the most effective ways of teaching information security skills to practitioners is through the use of competition. Gamification of security allows participants to get access to real attack data while providing a safe, challenging, and fun environment in which to experiment and learn.

You may be familiar with popular security competitions like DEF CON CTF or SANS NetWars.  In this talk we will present the details of how a small team at Splunk recently delivered a security competition called Boss of the SOC (BOTS).

BOTS offered hundreds of competitors across dozens of teams the opportunity to hone their blue-team skills with attack data captured from multiple real-world attack scenarios. We’ll discuss scenario development, attack data capture and enrichment, scoring, delivery, and show a demo of the live experience.
