HR Processes for Research Appointments

Submitted by ipthomps on Thu, 09/13/2012 - 3:00pm

This page provides researchers with a consolidated view of Hiring, Job Changes (including extensions) and Termination processes for all research appointment types. The information provided here comes directly from the HR Website process pages but has been consolidated to better support administration of research appointments.

Hiring Research Staff

The Research Appointment Summary provides detailed appointment information on those appointments that support research. The summary document provides a definition of each research appointment type and includes information about benefits, vacation and special leave entitlements.

Still not sure which appointment type is right for you? Contact your HR Advisor or Recruiter for assistance.

Once you know the type of appointment you want to hire, the process to hire or initiate a payment for each type of research support role is outlined next.

Click the staff group for which you require information on either hiring or in the case of a Grad Student entering a payment.

Making Changes to a Research Appointment

Once a research appointment has been hired it may be necessary to make changes to that appointment over time. Changes may include, extending the appointment, changing the funding source or updating a reporting relationship. The processes for changing a research appointment are reviewed next.

Resignation or Termination of Research Appointments

In general, research appointments are term appointments that end automatically on an end-date identified at the time of hire; but the processes to end an appointment prior to its expected end date are different depending on the reason it is ending.
