University of Calgary

Services Offered

The Faith & Spirituality Centre (FSC) consists of several Chaplains from various faith/religious traditions.  We offer spiritual and faith based programs, events and support to students, staff and faculty on campus. The Centre operates under four guiding principles: connecting, learning, serving, and practicing.

Drop-in centre

Students are welcome and encouraged to drop into the Centre at any time.  Our spaces provide a great place to eat, study, and converse with others.  We are located in MacEwan Student Centre 373, next to the SU Wellness Centre.

Meditation and Prayer Rooms

There is one space in our Centre (MSC 373J) and two spaces on the other side of Mac Hall (MSC 317a & 317) that students can use on a drop-in basis or by regular bookings to pray, meditate, relax or hold meetings/services.  Visit our Contact page to book our rooms.

Multi-Faith support and guidance

We have chaplains from the following traditions represented: Christian Reformed, Baptist, Zen Buddhist, Jewish, Muslim, Catholic, United/Presbyterian, Anglican, Lutheran and Pentecostal. We also have representation from the Secular/Humanist and Hindu communities.

All chaplains and liaisons are available to meet with students on a drop-in basis or by appointment.  Click here to meet them.

Multi-Faith worship services

A variety of worships services and programs are offered throughout the week. Click here to learn more.

Community/social events

We offer community dinners and tea times throughout the week. Every year on the first day of classes the FSC hosts an ice cream giveaway.

Lunch & Learns and Inter-Professional Development

Several times throughout a semester, we host educational and information sessions on a variety of spiritual and religious studies topics that are open to students and staff. We also offer Inter-professional development sessions to all Wellness Centre staff.

Spiritual & social justice programs

The FSC hosts a fair trade sale with Ten Thousand Villages, partners with OneMatch stem cell and bone narrow network, 30 Hour Famine, World Vision and Project Amigo. We also host meditation classes, drumming  and the Labyrinth.

Mentoring student leaders

The FSC is also thoroughly involved in the Emerging Leaders and Peer Helper programs.

Crisis support

In case of tragic events occurring (deaths, community crises, global crises), Chaplains are able to support families, friends and to assist with memorials and communal gatherings. Many chaplains are able to officiate over marriages and funerals and/or other religious ceremonies.
