University of Calgary

Pandemic-Communicable Diseases

The University prepares for public health planning for both short term and long term emergencies.  The purpose of this planning is to manage the impact of an infectious disease outbreak on employees, students, the University community and the University business.

Short term planning includes outbreaks of illnesses such as Noro-virus and Meningitis.  Long term planning includes Pandemic Influenza.

When public health incidents occur, the University follows recommendations provided by Alberta Health and Wellness and the Public Health Agency of Canada in managing the situation.

The University's Emergency Plan and Business Continuity planning process provide support to public health and pandemic planning.
