Evacuation / Assembly Points

The University of Calgary  recognizes the need to manage emergency evacuations.  The following four step plan will allow for an incremental approach when responding to buildings in alarm.  Depending on the nature of an incident it is possible to proceed directly to an appropriate response level.

0 - 30 Min

 
  • All building occupants evacuate and report to designated Assembly point.
  • Assembly Captain responds to Assembly Point with flip chart paper, tape, markers, radio or cell phone.
  • Are all spaces evacuated?

30 min - 1 ½ hour
  • Information updated every 30 minutes or as it develops.
  • ERP Communications Plan activated.

1 ½ - 4 Hour
  • University Reception Center may be opened if incident appears to be continuing.
  • Food / coffee may be provided.
  • Telephones will be available if needed.

> 4 Hour Duration
  • Evaluate accommodation requirements if any student residences are involved.
  • Classes or operations may be suspended for the area affected by the incident.
