 December 2011, Natalie Schwartz has been elected as the President of the Dino Women's Volleyball Club.

This is an important role to fill in terms of direction, leadership, decision-making and vision for the CWDinos Club. As the head coach of the University of Calgary women's volleyball team and past Executive Director of the Dino Women's Volleyball Club, Natalie's experience in female, youth volleyball is invaluable to the club. The direct affiliation between the UofC and the CWDinos Club is one of the distinction between us and other clubs in the area. Natalie stepping into this role as the club president will ensure that all club athletes will continue to be provided with high caliber coaching, high performance training opportunities, and the most positive, forward thinking club experience possible.

The CWDinos 18 Gold team was crowned this past weekend Pandas New Years Classic champions. Congratulations to the CWDinos 18 Gold team on bringing home the first victory of the 2012 CWDino club season. We are very proud of this teams effort and how they represented our club at the tournament along side the UofC varsity team. Way to go Girls!

UofC was also involved in the weekend festivities and beat UBCO 3-0 along with Saskatchewan 3-0 but unfortunately lost a tough battle to UofA 0-3.

The University of Calgary Dinos Varsity Team is your 2012 Timbertown Invitational Champions. The final was a tough match up between the MRU Cougars and the UofC Dinos. Spectators got their monies worth as this battle went to 5 sets with the UofC Dinos closing out the fifth set for the championship.

The Dinos are now off to Edmonton to participate in the UofA Panda’s New Year Classic Tournament along side our very own 18U CWDino Gold team who will compete in the 18/17U club division.

The 2012 Timbertown Classic will take place at MRU from Jan 2-4th. This holiday tournament will include the MRU Cougars as well as our University of Calgary Dino Women's Varsity team. Both teams are comprised of Dino Women's Volleyball Club Alumni!!

Mark your calendars and get the family out of the house to watch your two home town teams live in some holiday volleyball action!

Ernie and the 18U CWDinos Gold team are off to Edmonton early in the new year to compete in the UofA Pandas New Years Eve Classic. This tournament will showcase a 17/18 age division in conjunction with the UofA hosting other top Canada West CIS schools. UofA, UofR, UBCO and yours truly UofC Dinos will be in attendance with their affiliated club teams!

This years’ winner is described by her coach as the type of student athlete that her peers admire, teachers enjoy having in the class and coaches dream of having on their team. She motivates those around her to perform at a higher level and expects more from herself that any other player. She is also described as mature, positive, respectful and intelligent. According to her club coach she is in the top 5% of the 2012 recruiting class. She has competed for Team Alberta at the Under 16 and Under 17 levels. Aside from volleyball, she had represented her in cross-country and basketball.

In the community, she has served as a guest coach for junior high girls’ teams, and has done organizational and promotional work for the Calgary Mothers Milk Bank at the Foothills Hospital.

Like other winners, she is also an honors student who has maintained an 85% average during her high school career.

Ladies and Gentlemen: the 2011 Myrna Empey Award winner is Megan Festival of Western Canada High School.
