Fowlow ends term as interim dean

When Faculty of Environmental Design's interim dean Loraine Fowlow, BSc'83, MEDes'92, assumed the role in 2007, she inherited a faculty that had just undergone a unit review, a process that raised concern over the faculty's move away from the interdisciplinary approach established at its creation in the early 1970s. Rogers honoured for vision

Gayla Rogers, BSW'74, MSW'78, the dean of the Faculty of Social Work, has been awarded Global Television/YWCA's Woman of Vision award. A strong advocate of holistic leadership, Rogers says she believes in using heart, hands, head and soul to work for "social wellbeing and just societies," to quote the Faculty of Social Work's vision which she champions with conviction. Order of U of C nominations

The Order of the University of Calgary honours those who have a record of exemplary and distinguished service to the university. Ian Herring, BSc'72, MEng'79, (at left) was named to the order last November for his years of volunteer leadership, service and mentorship. Presidential search update

The search committee for the U of C's eighth president is on schedule to announce a new president in the first quarter of 2010. The committee, made up of members from multiple groups on campus including the General Faculties Council, student leadership and staff associations, met regularly through the summer and fall. The quality and breadth of the candidates who have expressed interest in leading the University of Calgary has been impressive. Warren Veale (left) took over as interim president on Jan. 1.
