Scientific Computation

Scientific Computation involves utilizing computational tools and structures used for scientific methods or applications such as bioinformatics, the human genome project, and obtaining & managing information.

You may focus your BSc Program on Scientific Computation by including a specific set of courses into your degree. Successful completion will mean that 'Concentration in Scientific Computation' will appear on your transcript.

Instructors who specialize in courses associated with this concentration:
John Aycock, Sonny Chan, Jalal Kawash, Jon Rokne.

Concentration Description

The Scientific Computation Concentration offers a multi-disciplinary approach to discovering and understanding data structures and file organization required for the massive amounts of data used in various fields of science.

Scientific Computation involves utilizing computational tools and structures used for scientific methods or applications such as bioinformatics, the human genome project, obtaining and managing information from space probes, Global Information Systems, environmental data monitoring and computer simulations. Quite often, engineers and scientists will use computer modeling as a process to solve a problem. This process is more time and cost efficient than creating an actual prototype and a computer model can ensure success.

Overview of Concentration Requirements

To complete a concentration in Scientific Computation, there are some restrictions on the option courses that you can choose in your degree program. Consult the University of Calgary calendar to find the exact list of courses you are required to take to complete.
