How to Install and Use PuTTY

This page outlines the steps needed to use PuTTY on CPSC servers.

Navigate to our department website and download PuTTY.  The remote access page is located at:
http://www.ucalgary.ca/cpsc/tech/services/remote_access_samba

Alternatively, get the file at http://pages.cpsc.ucalgary.ca/~leo/support/putty.zip

Extract the zip file

Navigate to the putty directory that was extracted.

Run the setup.bat batch file. This will copy the putty program to your profile. Desktop shortcuts will also be made.

Your desktop should now have these putty shortcuts.

When connecting for the first time, make sure the server fingerprint matches those listed on our website.

Enter your CPSC username and password to log in.

Running the putty.exe program should allow you to select one of the two servers.

Which server Do I use?

You should use the Linux Compute Server for most cases.

Use the ARM Linux Compute Server only for courses that require the ARM CPU architecture.
