How to Apply

STEP 1: Application

  • Complete the on-line application.
  • Applications are for admission in September, January or May of each year.
  • The application fee is $125 CDN for Canadian or Permanent Resident applicants, and $145 CDN for international applicants. This fee is mandatory and non-refundable. For applicants admitted to our graduate program, the application fee will be reimbursed at the end of the first month in program.
  • The application process is competitive. A minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4 point system for MSc applicants with a 4 year BSc; or a minimum GPA of 3.3 on a 4 point system for Ph.D. applicants with a MSc degree; or a minimum GPA of 3.7 on a 4 point system for applicants with an honours BSc degree.

STEP 2: Transcripts & Degree Certificates

  • Applicants must arrange with their university registrar to send transcript and degree certificates for ALL degrees directly to the Department of Chemistry.
  • If transcripts and degree certificates are not in English, they must be accompanied with an official English translation.
  • Applicants whose countries only issue transcripts and degree certificates once must have their institution send a letter stating so and certify official copies.

STEP 3: Application Results

  • After completing your online application, you are able to login to your student center to view the status of their applications, upload required documents etc.
  • Due to the volume of applications received, incomplete applications are not guaranteed to be reviewed by the Graduate Admissions Committee.
  • Only successful applicants will be notified via email and regular mail if accepted

If you are accepted:

  • An offer letter will be sent to you both by mail and electronically with a deadline to respond to the Graduate Program Director (their email will be included in the offer letter)
  • The Faculty of Graduate Studies (FGS) will send a final acceptance letter and acceptance form,
  • You return the acceptance form to FGS
  • You must contact the Department Graduate Studies Office at to arrange for orientation and to notify the Graduate Program Administrator of their arrival date.
