All supporting documentation must be received by these dates in order for applications to be considered complete, and available for faculty review. In addition to the on-line application form, supporting documents include: Official Transcripts; Two reference letters with reference forms; TOEFL or other proof of proficiency in English if applicable.

Official' transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended, regardless of whether or not degrees completed/conferred are required.  Applicants in program must submit transcripts to date.  Admitted students will be required to submit official transcripts showing degree conferred prior to first registration in the graduate program.  If the degree will not be conferred until after the start of the graduate program, students must request a letter from that institution, sent to this office, stating all degree requirements have been met and date of convocation.

‘Official' means transcripts received in this office in the original unopened sealed envelopes as issued by the institution.  Photocopies or transcripts not received in sealed envelopes are not official.  For institutions issuing only one original transcript directly to student, that student should request that the degree-granting institution certify a photocopy and forward that copy directly to this office in a sealed envelope.  This request should be done by registered mail with a copy of the letter and receipt forwarded to this office.

Two reference letters with reference forms.  Letters and forms must bear the referee's signature and the letter must be printed on official letterhead from the referee's institution and sent in a sealed envelope or from an institutional email account.

An appropriate letter of recommendation is one written by an individual who can provide an assessment of the applicant's background and capabilities with respect to our department.  An applicant currently registered in a graduate degree program, or who has recently completed a graduate degree program, must submit one letter of reference from his/her program supervisor

The Reference form is available HERE
See http://www.ucalgary.ca/chem/grad/admissions for department English proficiency requirements.

Separate deadlines apply for scholarships, fellowships, and bursaries

Note that most admissions are for September. January admissions are possible but are often for applicants who need to defer their September admission. Admission in May is possible but is usually governed by summer funding from individual faculty members research grants.

You are invited to contact individual faculty members directly regarding possible openings within their research group. Although they cannot recommend applicants for admission until a complete application is received, they can indicate whether they have space and funding for new students as well as offer more information on specific research projects.
