About Us

What We Do

  • Certified Respiratory Educators provide one-on-one education and spirometry for patients with asthma, COPD, chronic cough and smokers at risk.
  • Education sessions are provided on disease processes of asthma, COPD and chronic cough, medication information, device instruction information, handouts on smoking cessation.
  • Our team assists patients to better self-manage and achieve control of their chronic respiratory disease.
  • Our educators are taking the lead within Alberta Health Services in developing materials and programs for smokers at risk.
  • Physicians, healthcare professionals and patients can refer to our program by completing our referral form and faxing it to our office (403-283-3406).

How can I get an appointment with CCAP?

  • You can refer yourself for a visit with a Certified Respiratory Educator, which includes breathing tests and education
  • Your family doctor can refer you for breathing tests and education or for a lung specialist assessment
  • Emergency Department staff can refer you to the program

Where do I go for my appointment?

  • six locations within the Calgary community
  • designated family physician offices
  • Outpatient Clinics (Specialty clinics) located within the Foothills Medical Centre, Peter Lougheed General Hospital and Rockyview General Hospital

What happens on my visit?

  • breathing tests (spirometry)
  • education including disease process, triggers, avoidance strategies, medications, review of inhaler technique, development of an action plan and smoking cessation (if appropriate)
