Muhammad's Name Title

When Muslims write Muhammad's name, they follow it with the letters SAAS or SAWS, which is an abbreviation of the Arabic, "Salla Allahu Alaihi Wa Sallam," or "May the blessing and the peace of Allah be upon him." Sometimes this phrase is denoted in English with the letters PBUH, or "Peace be upon him." Muslims must also say this phrase whenever Muhammad's name is mentioned, as an expression of respect to the Prophet. Because this tutorial is non-denominational, it will not write the abbreviation after every mention of Muhammad's name, but the student should be aware of this Muslim tradition.
