SUCCESS Program

SUCCESS was designed specifically with new students to the University of Calgary in mind. You’ve worked hard, and we know you have what it takes to thrive at the University of Calgary. The SUCCESS program is more than just beating the rush; it’s about making sure your path to success is smooth and clear. The University of Calgary has extended numerous benefits to SUCCESS students, making the transition here as easy as possible.

How Do I Meet The Criteria?

You can be considered for the SUCCESS program in one of the four following ways:

• Recipients of the University of Calgary Prestige Scholarships & Awards (Chancellors Club Scholarship, Schulich School of Engineering Scholarship & O'Brien Health Science Awards)
• Being a full IB diploma student with a minimum predicted grade of 30 points
• Being part of our AP+ Program
• Or having a first semester average of 95%+ on 2 academic subjects*
  Deadline for transcripts is Friday, March 30, 2012
• Students will be notified about their eligibilty for the SUCCESS program by April 30, 2012.

**If you are an Alberta High School student, our SUCCESS Team will obtain your first semester high school transcript on your behalf directly from Apply Alberta. This means that you do not need to send your own copy for SUCCESS consideration.**

What is SUCCESS?

SUCCESS was designed to reward high achieving students and ease the transition from high school to university. Unique to the University of Calgary, the SUCCESS program is offered to high school students with no prior college or university level credit, who meet one of the four qualifying criteria.

Students who qualify for SUCCESS receive early course registration, guaranteed accommodation in on-campus residence, regular email updates and much more.

Early Course Registration

You will be assigned an enrolment appointment time - this indicates when you can first start registering online for your courses. You can register at the start of your appointment time, or anytime after that. Be sure to check your online Student Centre at my.ucalgary.ca for your specific enrolment appointment time - it will appear under "Checklist."

Campus ID Card

To pick up your Campus ID, you must be conditionally/formally admitted to the University of Calgary, and you must be enrolled in your classes for the Fall 2012/ Winter 2013 academic year. Please make sure to bring your government issued picture ID and University of Calgary ID number!

You need your campus ID card to obtain other SUCCESS benefits, so be sure to get your Campus ID card first.

Drop in to the Campus Security Office in the MacEwan Student Centre (Room 260), between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Mon to Fri. You MUST have a valid piece of photo identification. www.ucalgary.ca/security

Early Locker Registration

To obtain a locker as a SUCCESS student, simply log onto your online Student Centre and click on "Other Academic Services". From there SUCCESS students can chose a locker in the building and floor that you want!

Residence

All students who apply for residence before the deadline receive guaranteed residence in their first year. As a SUCCESS student, you'll receive guaranteed residence every year while at the University of Calgary.*

In your first year, you will be entered into a lottery draw for the chance to stay in one of 100 single rooms in traditional residence or one of 10 rooms in the new Living Learning Community (LLC).

*Students must maintain a minimum of 3.5GPA after their first year in order to be eligible for this guaranteed residence offer.

Be sure to apply for residence by April 30st, 2012 in order to be eligible for these benefits.

Health and Recreation

June - August 2012 - Campus Recreation access

**You must have your Campus ID card to access your Campus Recreation Card**

Get your Campus Recreation Card anytime this year and try out the University of Calgary's world-class recreation facilities over the summer months! Campus Rec cards can be picked up from Kinesiology Client Services (KNA 101) or from the Equipment Room (KNA 104) between the hours of 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Both are located in the Kinesiology complex. www.ucalgaryrecreation.ca

Bookstore Discount

We are teaming up with our partners at the University Bookstore to offer an exclusive deal to SUCCESS students.

Pick up your discount card from the Information Desk at the Bookstore (center of the store). Make sure to bring your University of Calgary Campus ID Card!

As a SUCCESS student you will receive 25% off clothing, gift shop items, general reading & reference books, and stationery items for the entire month of September.

*Course material and textbooks, art supplies, calculators, as well as computer software and hardware, do not qualify for this discount.*

Be sure to visit the University Bookstore in the MacEwan Student Centre (Room 155) between the hours of 9:00am to 6:00pm Monday to Friday or 10:00am to 5:00pm on Saturday.

GET INVOLVED

Becoming a part of the University Community means more than just being a student; it's about taking control of your experiences. Early registration to campus events, exploring leadership programs, and checking out special events and lecture series are just a few ways to be involved.

Access to Campus

SUCCESS students are invited to enroll in the University of Calgary Leadership (UCL) program with priority registration in spring orientation workshops / lecture series.
