Quebec's Requirements

English Language Proficiency is required for all programs.

Course Groupings

For admission purposes, the University of Calgary classifies all other appropriate CEGEP subjects into the following four groups:

Group A

  • History (330)
  • Language other than English
  • Geography (320)

Group B

  • Biology (101)
  • Chemistry (202)
  • Mathematics (201) excluding statistics
  • Physics (203)

Group C

  • Art (520)
  • Theatre (560)
  • Music (550)

Group D

  • Other subjects such as: Humanities (345), Sociology (387), etc.

If there is a discrepancy between these requirements and those listed in the Calendar, the Calendar will be deemed correct.

Bachelor of Arts and Related Degrees

Required Courses (2 Semesters)

  • English (603 or 604)
  • Subject from Group A or B
  • Subject from Group A or B
  • Subject from Group A or B
  • Subject from Group A, B, C or D

If the fifth subject is from Group C or D, a minimum average of 65% on the first four subjects is required

  • Mathematics (201) excluding statistics is required as a prerequisite for courses in the following programs: Archaeology, Economics, Geography and Psychology
  • Biology (101) and Chemistry (202) are required as prerequisites for Biology 241 in the BSc in Psychology, the BSc in Primatology Honours, and the BA or BSc in Primatology Honours, and the BA or BSc in Archaeology with a concentration in Physical Anthropology

Bachelor of Fine Arts and Related Degrees

Required Courses (2 Semesters)

  • English (603 or 604)
  • Subject from Group A or B
  • Subject from Group A or B
  • Subject from Group A or B
  • Subject from Group A, B, C or D

If the fifth subject is from Group C or D, a minimum average of 65% on the first four subjects is required

  • Bachelor of Music and BA Dance programs require auditions. BFA Visual Studies requires a portfolio
  • Applicants to dance, drama, music or visual studies program may present a subject from Group C in lieu of one of the Group A or B
  • Bachelor of Music and BA Music programs require evidence of successful completion of Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) Advanced Rudiments

Bachelor of Education

Required Courses (2 Semesters)

Refer to requirements of Faculty offering teaching subject.

  • In cooperation with other faculties, the Werklund School of Education offers a five year concurrent program to award a BEd with one of a BA, BKin, BMus or BSc degree. Applicants to the five year concurrent BEd program must satisfy the subject requirements of the faculty offering the BA, BKin, BMus or BSc degree. Students complete three years of study in the faculty offering the BA, BKin, BMus or BSc degree and two years of study with the Werklund School of Education.

Bachelor of Commerce

Required Courses (2 Semesters)

  • English (603 or 604)
  • Mathematics (201) excluding statistics
  • Subject from Group A or B
  • Subject from Group A or B
  • Subject from Group A, B, C or D

If the fifth subject is from Group C or D, a minimum average of 65% on the first four subjects is required

  • A minimum grade of 70% in Mathematics (201) excluding statistics is the prerequisite for first-year math courses

Bachelor of Kinesiology

Required Courses (2 Semesters)

  • English (603 or 604)
  • Mathematics (201) excluding statistics
  • Biology (101)
  • Chemistry (202)
  • Subject from Group A, B, C or D

If the fifth subject is from Group C or D, a minimum average of 65% on the first four subjects is required

  • For Exercise and Health Physiology and Biomechanics, a minimum of 70% is required in Mathematics (201) excluding statistics
  • For Biomechanics, both Mathematics (201) excluding statistics are required. Physics (203) is recommended, but will not be counted in the calculation of the incoming average

Bachelor of Community Rehabilitation

Required Courses (2 Semesters)

  • English (603 or 604)
  • Biology (101)
  • Subject from Group A or B
  • Subject from Group A or B
  • Subject from Group A, B, C or D

If the fifth subject is from Group C or D, a minimum average of 65% on the first four subjects is required

Bachelor of Health Sciences

Required Courses (2 Semesters)

  • English (603 or 604)
  • Mathematics (201) excluding statistics
  • Biology (101)
  • Chemistry (202)
  • Subject from Group A, B, C or D

If the fifth subject is from Group C or D, a minimum average of 65% on the first four subjects is required

  • A minimum grade of 70% in Mathematics (201) excluding statistics is the prerequisite for first-year math courses
  • A supplementary application is required for admission

Bachelor of Nursing

If the fifth subject is from Group C or D, a minimum average of 65% on the first four subjects is required

Bachelor of Science in Engineering

  • Chemistry (202)

Students without Calculus may present an alternate Group A or B subject and may be considered on an individual basis for admission. Such applicants will be required to present a higher average for admission. Upon admission, the student will be required to complete an alternate math stream

  • A minimum grade of 70% in Mathematics (201) excluding statistics is the prerequisite for first-year math courses

Bachelor of Science and Related Degrees

Required Courses (2 Semesters)

  • English (603 or 604)
  • Mathematics (201) excluding statistics
  • Two of Biology (101), Chemistry (202), Physics (203)
  • Subject from Group A, B, C or D

If the fifth subject is from Group C or D, a minimum average of 65% on the first four subjects is required

  • Chemistry (202) is required for all Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Geosciences, Physics and Astronomy programs
  • Biology (101) is required for all Biological Sciences programs
  • Calculus is strongly recommended for all programs Physics (203) is recommended for all Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Geosciences, Physics and Astronomy programs as well as for the Applied Mathematics major
  • A minimum grade of 70% in Mathematics (201) excluding statistics is the prerequisite for first-year math courses
