International Students

The University of Calgary welcomes international applicants. We have provided the following information to assist you in your application for admission.

Steps to Apply

1. Check out the application deadlines. Most programs accept applications only for the Fall term, but deadlines depend on the program. We recommend that international students apply no later than February 1, though we will consider applications after this date (as time and resources permit).

2. Explore the program offerings at the University of Calgary. Programs from Accounting to Zoology are available at the University of Calgary. Learn about all the possibilities and then narrow down your selection. When you complete the application for admission, you'll be asked to provide your first and second choices.

3. Review the admission requirements.

4. Meet the English Language Proficiency requirement.

The primary language of instruction at the University of Calgary is English. To enable academic success, students are required to satisfy this requirement.

5. Prepare your transcripts and course outlines.

Transcripts should be sent directly to the Admissions Office. Course outlines for transfer students should be verified and sent directly to the Admissions Office by the institution. Documents that are not in English must be accompanied by an official English translation.

Please do not sent your original documents to the University of Calgary, as we are unable to return them. If you have your own original transcripts, you may provide us with photocopies that we can use for evaluation purposes. If you are admitted, we will require official transcripts to be sent directly from the issuing institution to the Recruitment and Admissions Office.

6. Find out what you need to apply for a student visa. If you are not a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada, you will require a study permit. You should familiarize yourself with the length of time it takes to apply for, process, and obtain a student visa in your country. Make sure we have all of the documents we need so that we can review your application for admission as soon as possible.

7. Still have questions? Refer to our frequently asked questions for international students page, attend one of our events, or contact us.
