University of Calgary

International Baccalaureate (IB)

International Baccalaureate students are eligible for admission on the basis of successful completion of the IB diploma. In addition, applicants must satisfy the admission criteria of the requested faculty by presenting the specific course requirements and will be required to present specific IB score as determined by that faculty. At least three subjects must be successfully completed at the Higher Level, while the remaining three subjects may be successfully completed at the Standard Level. Grades below 3 are not accepted for admission.

For applicants who complete both the International Baccalaureate diploma and senior matriculation/secondary school graduation, admission will be based on that credential which is to the advantage of the student.

Regardless of the basis of admission, the University of Calgary awards a full year of credit (five full-course equivalents) for the completed International Baccalaureate diploma. Specific course credit for Higher Level courses is awarded as indicated in the University of Calgary Calendar. The balance of the credit required to bring the total to five full-course equivalents will be at the junior unassigned option level.

Students awarded the full year of credit for the completed International Baccalaureate diploma remain eligible for all admission categories and University awards normally open to entering first year students.

Further information for IB students can be found at the IB Matters website.

Early Admission - International Baccalaureate (IB)

Early Admission for applicants completing the IB curriculum shall be considered on the basis of anticipated final grades in each of the six subjects and the anticipated overall IB diploma score. Applicants who wish to be considered for Early Admission should request that their anticipated grades and overall score be sent directly to the Recruitment and Admissions Office by the appropriate school authority no later than April 1.

You can download a PDF template for anticipated/predicted grades here, and submit this to our office.
